Preschool Swim Lessons (Ages 3–4)

Preschool lessons introduce young children to the water, helping them feel comfortable with basic skills such as blowing bubbles, submerging their face, floating on their front and back, and safely entering and exiting the pool. Lessons incorporate fun games and songs to keep children engaged. The primary goal is to foster a positive relationship with water and build foundational skills for future swimming development.

All instructors are certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors.

Diaper Policy

  • All children under 3.5 years old, and any child over 3.5 who is not toilet trained, must wear a swim diaper.
  • Swim diapers are available for purchase at the pool for $2.00.

Water Temperature

  • The pool is maintained at a recreational temperature of 80–82 degrees.
  • Infants and toddlers cannot regulate body temperature as well as adults, so their body temperature may change quickly in the water. The pool recommends the use of a neoprene or warming swimsuit for young swimmers.

Registration Information

  • Registration is available in person or online on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 9:00 a.m. on the posted registration date.
  • Payment is due in full at the time of registration.
  • Registration closes at the end of the first week of lessons.
  • All classes require a minimum enrollment to run. Cancellations due to low enrollment will be announced one week prior to the session start date.

Preschool 1 & 2
The purpose of this class is to help children 3 to 4 feel comfortable in the water for the first time without a parent. It orients children to the aquatic environment, helps them gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around the water. Children will learn to enter the water on their, follow the directions of the instructor, and gain basic swimming propulsive skills by learning to fully submerge and hold breath, bob, blow bubbles and float with assistance. Children in this level will also learn how to stay safe around aquatic environments.

Preschool 3
In Preschool 3, children must be swimming independently without floation. All skills from Preschool 1 + 2 will be reviewed and developed independently (enter water on their own, fully submerge and hold breath, blow bubbles, front and back float, gilding, and arm and leg action). Children in this level will also learn how to stay safe around aquatic environments. Children in this level are able to swim independently on their front for 3 body lengths. Prerequisites for Preschool 3 — Participants must be able do these skills indepently without floation: • Glide on front for at least 2 body lengths, roll to back, float on back for 15 seconds, then recover to a vertical position. • Glide on back for at least 2 body lengths, roll to front, then recover to a vertical position. •Swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 3 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to front, then continue swimming on front for 3 body lengths.
